Columbia Concert Band Children’s Concert

Columbia, Maryland, March 28th, 2007 — The Columbia Concert Band will perform their annual Spring Concert on Sunday, May 6th at 7:30pm. The concert will be at River Hill High School, 12101 Route 108, in Clarksville, MD. Admission is free and no tickets are required.

The concert will feature two technically challenging, yet exciting pieces from two top composers in the concert band world: Scotch Strathspey and Reel by renowned Australian composer Percy Grainger, and the extremely rhythmic Nilesdance by American David Holsinger. Other pieces will display their own unique style, but will also include some vocalization. Andrew Boysen, Jr. weighs in with an accelerating tune called Unraveling, Jay Chattaway provides a percussion-laden tribute to Native Americans called Mazama, and Ron Nelson’s Courtly Airs and Dances brings dance rhythms from various countries to the line-up. A handful of other pieces will be performed, including a nostalgic medley called The Genius of Paul Simon, by Tom Wallace.

This concert is possible, in part, thanks to the Howard County Arts Council through a grant from the Howard County Government.
